Summer Heritage Series: The Dark Harbor Dog Show
The Dark Harbor Dog Show
The Dark Harbor Dog Show was founded in 1944 by ten-year-old Apple Bartlett and friends to raise money for a local charity. Following the rules of a professional dog show, this iconic event has one special rule -that all dogs must be shown by children, and no grownups are allowed in the ring except the judges.
Normal classes, such as large and small sporting, nonsporting, etc., are offered, as well as a costume and trick class. With the exception of two rain cancellations, it has run continually at the Parrish house in Maine. All island dogs and children are welcome.
"The Dark Harbor Dog show is a beloved 80 year old institution loved by island kids and dogs alike ."
