Summer Heritage Series: The Upstairs Bedroom
The Upstairs Bedroom
The second floor of the Summer House is home to the most coveted guest room in the house. This suite of rooms, tucked under the eaves and accessed by a steep stairwell painted in a fantastic trompe l'oeil design with a plush needlepoint rug, features a balcony overlooking the water, a stylish sitting room with a desk, and an adjoining bath.
A room under the eaves calls for wallpaper, so we used our Kinnicutt in green, with its charming vine design, to cover the walls of both the bedroom and the sitting room. The bathroom, naturally, is adorned with Serendipity in green, its cheerful star design elevating the mood of any cozy bath.
The floors are painted a seafoam blue and covered by a rag rug sourced by Sister in the sixties. The most important accessory on the second floor is a collection of well-worn favorite books gathered by our family over the years. If the ultimate goal of a guest room is a secret hideaway, what more could you want?
