6 Hours in the Hudson Valley: Millerton, NY

Just 40 minutes from Litchfield, CT, is the small village of Millerton, NY. Complete with antiques, gift shops, a tea room, and an old school diner - this is the perfect day trip from Litchfield or anywhere near by. Recently, we spent six hours exploring the town before catching a flight back to Atlanta. Documenting our itinerary below!

1st Stop: Millerton Antique Center

We hit the road around 9 AM to make sure were at Millerton Antique Center right when it opened at 10 AM. After a delicious breakfast at Litchfield's newest boutique hotel, The Abner (included in your stay!), we were en route. Millerton Antique Center is filled with so many great finds and has an upstairs to explore with even more booths. Definitely reserve 1.5 hours to poke around and do a few laps to make sure you didn't miss anything.

Some favorite finds from this stop:

This frame! Victorian water color dated 1856. This would look so chic above a bed hanging on top of wallpaper or a vibrant paint color.

This shelf filled with vintage cooking tools and baskets made me want to start my own collection in my kitchen at home.

Loved this wooden bulldog. Surprisingly heavy and definitely handmade. The quirky shape would make a statement on any shelf.

These paper shades were so dainty and covered in the sweetest details. I regret not being able to travel with these.

Finds that made it into my suitcase: a miniature Shakespeare etching and a vintage children's book - Skipper John's Cook from 1951.

I fell in love with this pair of lamps. Replace with funky, custom shades and immediately have a work of art at home.

Next Up: Montage Antiques

Montage needs no introduction but is an absolute must when in Millerton. A source for designers, design enthusiasts, and really anyone, this shop is family-owned and filled with the most beautiful collections from sourcing trips to Europe and all over the world. Montage has been a favorite haunt of Eliza's forever and Sister Parish had a retail pop-up in store back in 2021. Read all about that here.

Some snaps from this stop:

Time for lunch and a latte

We took a quick break for lunch and saddled up to the counter at Oakhurst Diner for a burger - a short walk from Montage. On your way down the hill, you'll pass Hunter Bee and Cottage and Camp. Both great shops to pop into for a quick peruse. After lunch, we stopped into Harney and Sons Fine Teas for a chai latte and chocolate croissant - the fuel needed for the last few shops.

Lou's Relics

Technically in Lakeville, CT, but less than two miles from Millerton's main street is Lou's Relics. It's a large warehouse filled with tons and tons of stuff - prepare to dig.

Final stop: Black Squirrel Antiques

Around the corner, also in Lakeville, is Black Squirrel Antiques. This shop makes up the first floor of the owners home and is filled with treasures - china, splatterware, antique mirrors, etc.

Some favorite finds from this stop:

Primitive, painted corner hutch. This would be so perfect for a children's room. Again, not carry-on friendly.

This hall tree was so stunning - such a unique design.

Vintage granite ware. We love when collections are displayed together. The blue and white splatterware is always a favorite.

Time to head home - happy hunting!
