We sourced an old decorating book from the 50s and have been pouring over all the sections on furniture arranging, backgrounds, lighting, and color schemes. It has a fabulous color wheel and deep dives on the feelings that different colors evoke. Notes from the color schemes section remind us why when winter starts to turn, we crave those oranges, melons, buttercreams, paprikas, and pinks in our homes. The book goes on to say, "Oranges, yellows, reds, and the red-browns-these are the colors of the sun, fire, earth, suggesting the friendliness of a campfire, the warmth of the sun, the natural 'belonging' of rich soil and rock and sand." Slowly as we start to emerge from a long winter, these are the patterns on our minds.
